We are Navodayans first. These guidelines keep our chat rooms, stories, comments and gallery the kind of place you would be glad to bring a batchmate to: warm, useful and safe.
1. Why these guidelines exist
The portal exists to keep JNV Krishna alumni connected with each other and with the Vidyalaya. These guidelines apply to everything members share here: chat rooms and direct messages, stories and comments, photos in the gallery, business listings and profiles.
Chat is open to verified, active members who are 18 or older. By joining a room you agree to follow these guidelines, our Terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. Be kind
- Disagree with ideas, not with people. Keep it civil, even when a conversation gets heated.
- No harassment, bullying, threats or name-calling.
- No hate or discrimination based on religion, caste, gender, region, language, disability or sexual orientation.
- Seniors, juniors, teachers and staff all deserve the same respect.
3. Respect privacy
- Don't share anyone's phone number, address, photos or screenshots of private chats without their permission.
- Don't collect members' details to contact them outside the portal for selling or campaigning.
- Never publish someone's personal details to target or shame them (doxxing).
4. Content that is never allowed
These rules mirror the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. Please don't post or share anything that:
- belongs to someone else and you have no right to share;
- is obscene, pornographic or paedophilic, or invades someone's privacy, including their bodily privacy;
- harms children in any way;
- infringes a copyright, trademark or other intellectual property;
- is deliberately false or misleading, including deepfakes and edited images meant to deceive;
- impersonates another member, a teacher, a board member or the Association;
- threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, its friendly relations with other countries, or public order;
- contains viruses or malware, or links to them;
- promotes online betting, gambling or games that are not permitted by law;
- is otherwise against the law.
5. Spam, selling and fundraising
- No chain messages, pyramid or MLM schemes, or repeated unsolicited promotion.
- Business posts belong in rooms that allow them and in the Business Directory.
- Fundraising is allowed only for official JNVKAA campaigns listed on the Donate page.
6. Politics and religion
Our members hold many views and faiths, and that is part of our strength. Respectful discussion is welcome. Campaigning for parties or candidates, and posts that mock or attack a faith, are not allowed in the community and batch rooms.
7. Check before you forward
Don't forward news you haven't verified. Claims about health, money or emergencies need a reliable source. If you're not sure, it's kinder not to share.
8. Photos, stickers and media
Share only photos, videos and files you have the right to share, and think twice before posting a photo of someone else. Ask first, especially for children. The stickers in the chat panel are licensed for use on the portal; see our Credits.
9. Zero tolerance
Some content leads to immediate suspension and, where the law requires it, a report to the police:
- child sexual abuse material of any kind;
- intimate or sexual images of anyone shared without their consent, including morphed or AI-generated ones;
- credible threats of violence.
If you come across child sexual abuse material, don't forward, screenshot or download it: doing so can itself be a crime. Report the message, and you can also report it at cybercrime.gov.in.
10. What happens if the rules are broken
Most problems are honest mistakes, and a friendly word is usually enough. When it isn't, moderators follow these steps, choosing the step that fits what happened:
- the message or post is removed;
- a warning;
- a mute in the room, for 24 hours or 7 days;
- removal from the room;
- suspension from chat for up to 30 days;
- a review of the membership by the committee.
Every decision is recorded, and repeated problems are taken into account. A report made in good faith is never punished, even if it turns out the rules were not broken.
11. How moderation works
- Moderators are volunteers from the board and the community, and room admins look after their own rooms.
- Moderators see a message only when someone reports it: the reported message and up to five earlier messages the reporter could see. They can't browse rooms, search messages or read direct messages.
- The member who is reported is not told who reported them.
12. How to report
- In chat: press and hold (or right-click) a message and choose Report. Pick a reason, add a note if you like, and send. You can block the person at the same time.
- Stories and comments: use the Report link under the story or comment.
- Anything else, or if you are not a member: use the form on the Grievance Officer page.
We act on reports about intimate images shared without consent and about impersonation within 2 hours, on other unlawful content within 36 hours, and we close every complaint within 7 days. You'll get a reference number so you can follow up.
13. Appeals
If you think a decision about your content or your account was wrong, reply to the moderation notice or write to the Grievance Officer within 30 days. A different moderator reviews it, and we tell you the outcome.
If you are still not satisfied, you can appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee set up by the Government of India under Rule 3A of the IT Rules, at gac.gov.in, within 30 days of our decision.
14. Changes to these guidelines
We remind members of these guidelines at least once every three months. When we change them in a way that matters, we tell you, and chat asks you to accept the new version before your next message.
15. Questions
